Rules & Regulation for Basketball:

  1. Rules related to ball movements, body movement such as traveling, screens, dribble techniques, jump and rebounds, and tip-offs, shooting, shooting fouls etc., which are related to the game shall be followed in accordance to the NBA (www.nba.com) rules and regulations.
  2. Only Nepali players will be participating in sports events.
  3. Team roster is limited to 12 players with a minimum of 5 players. No players can be added after the submission of the team roster.
  4. Group Level game will be played on a league basis.
  5. The games will consist of two Twenty minutes halves. Both Halves will be utilizing a running clock. The clock will stop during the last two minutes of each half for all violations and actions involving a referee’s whistle. (From Semi-Finals, the clock will stop during the last Five minutes of each half for all violations and actions involving a referee’s whistle.)
  6. A player will be disqualified upon receiving a total of six personal or two technical fouls during any of the tournament games. A technical foul counts as technical foul, personal foul, and or team foul.
  7. If the team committing the foul has seven or more fouls in the game, then the player who was fouled is awarded one free throw. If he makes his first shot, then he is awarded another free throw.
  8. If the team committing the foul has ten or more fouls, then the fouled player receives two free throws. In the event of jump balls, the ball is awarded on an alternate basis, beginning with the team, which initially put the ball into play.
  9. Each team shall be allowed two-time outs of 1 minute each per 1 half (total 4) Overtime periods are five minutes in length. Each team shall receive one additional timeout per overtime period.
  10. The game clock shall stop during the last two minutes of overtime for all violations and actions involving a referee’s whistle.
  11. Each player on a team must wear the same color shirt of a jersey. During a game, players may not wear jewelry of any type. When in the opinion of the referee the jersey colors of the two teams are too similar, the team registered later is required to change.
  12. Substitution is unlimited and it must be made with the consent of the referee.
  13. Violation of conduct/ sportsmanship may lead to disqualification of the team and fines on the team. Waiver forms need to be signed by all the players. UNA will not responsible for any damages and injuries inherent in the practice.
  14. Officials are in absolute control of the game and will do the officiating. Only players and coaches (maximum of two) are permitted in the playing area. The official shall have the power to make decisions on any matters or questions not specifically covered in the rules.
  15. Teams are required to come to the venue 45 minutes before the game. Team captains must check-in to the Information desk at the field 30 minutes before the game and the captains must indicate their jersey colors to the representative at the information desk. If the two teams have the same color, a toss would be done in order to change the jerseys.
  16. Every team is required to bring two sets of jerseys to the tournament.
  17. Teams not showing up after 10 minutes of the proposed start-time will automatically forfeit.
  18. Teams will be disqualified in case of violent act or misbehavior to or within the tournament including the entire organizing team, referee and other teams.

Only Nepalese origin players will be allowed to participate. In Case of protest against any such forbidden participation, the team will be required to provide supporting documents as requested by the organizing committee.

Management decision will be the Final Decision. UNA has the right to make changes if needed.
